Poppy Seed 100g
Poppy Seeds grow on the medium-sized poppy plant, that same plant that produces opium. Rest assured that these are safe to consume as the opiates are found in the sap of the plant, not the seeds! These tiny seeds are a slate blue colour and are used both for their flavour and as a decoration. They can be used whole, ground, made into paste or roasted, giving them a nutty flavour. The whole seeds can be difficult to grind and may benefit from being soaked in water first.
Try using them in delicious orange and poppy seed muffins! Poppy Seeds can go rancid easily as they have a high oil content, so our speedy turnover ensures ours are always fresh and tasting great. Pop them in the fridge to keep them super fresh!
